Developing a three-dimensional finite element analysis approach to simulate corrosion-induced concrete cracking in reinforced concrete beams

Y. Z. Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed a three-dimensional finite element analysis approach to investigate the influence of stirrups and non-uniform corrosion in corroded reinforced concrete structures. The results showed that non-uniform corrosion resulted in more severe cracking and the constraint provided by stirrups weakened with increasing distance.

Corrosion Crack Morphology and Creep Analysis of Members Based on Meso-Scale Corrosion Penetration

Bin Zeng et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the development of load-carrying capacity and long-term creep performance of reinforced concrete beams under different corrosion patterns using a rate-dependent model of concrete and porosity mechanics method. The results show that the higher the corrosion rate, the lower the bearing capacity in all conditions. Additionally, the corrosion of top longitudinal reinforcement changes the beam's damage form to brittle damage. The creep coefficient decreases with the increase in corrosion rate, mainly due to the significant increase in initial deformation. Hence, it is more reasonable to use global deflection to describe the long-term deformation of corrosion-damaged members.

Continuous Reinforced Concrete Beams Strengthened with Fabric-Reinforced Cementitious Matrix: Experimental Investigation and Numerical Simulation

Nouman Khattak et al.

Summary: This paper examines the flexural behavior of continuous RC beam specimens strengthened with fabric-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) composites using experimental testing and numerical modeling. The results show the effects of different FRCM types, strengthening locations, and number of FRCM layers on strength gain, load capacity, and ductility of the specimens.
