Molecular Dynamics Simulation of the Structural, Mechanical, and Reprocessing Properties of Vitrimers Based on a Dynamic Covalent Polymer Network

Hengheng Zhao et al.

Summary: This study utilizes coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the effect of bond swap energy barrier (Delta E-sw) on the mechanical properties of vitrimers. The results show that Delta E-sw plays a critical role in the dynamics of linear chains and reactive beads. The study also demonstrates that an intermediate value of Delta E-sw can achieve the best mechanical performance characteristics. Additionally, the study explores the impact of Delta E-sw on stress relaxation, self-healing capability, and extrusion rate of polymer vitrimers.

Novel Molecular-Level Insight into the Self-Healing Behavior and Mechanism of Polyurethane-Urea Elastomer Based on a Noncovalent Strategy

Jialiang Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a self-healing polyurethane-urea elastomer was prepared, and the self-healing mechanism was revealed using coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulation. The self-healing process consisted of material movement, polymer interdiffusion, and bond exchange. Cut polymer chains and disordered hydrogen bonds played a key role in the healing capacity.

Structure-Mechanics Relation of Natural Rubber: Insights from Molecular Dynamics Simulations

Qionghai Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of structural factors on the strain-induced crystallization (SIC) and mechanical properties of NR using molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that the formation of local clusters in NR, as well as the mobility of polymer chains, are influenced by phospholipid and protein mass fraction, strength of hydrogen-bond interaction, and strength of non-hydrogen-bond interaction. Additionally, the stress-strain behavior of NR is greatly manipulated by the strength of hydrogen-bond interaction and the mass fraction of phospholipid and protein, leading to increased chain orientation and SIC compared to other elastomeric materials.

A molecular dynamics simulation on self-healing behavior based on disulfide bond exchange reactions

Xiangrui Zheng et al.

Summary: The paper investigates the self-healing mechanism based on disulfide bond exchange reactions at the atomic scale through molecular dynamics simulations. It explores the effects of crosslink density and healing time on self-healing efficiency and mechanical properties. The results show that high crosslink density improves mechanical properties but reduces molecular chain mobility, while shorter stress relaxation time leads to higher healing efficiency.

Wholly Biobased, Highly Stretchable, Hydrophobic, and Self-healing Thermoplastic Elastomer

Yeyen Nurhamiyah et al.

Summary: The wholly biobased, self-healing polyamide-based thermoplastic elastomer synthesized using a fatty dimer acid and a fatty dimer amine exhibits superior stretchability, high toughness, and excellent shape recovery. Its outstanding properties are attributed to the highly entangled main chain, multiple dangling chains, reversible physical bonds, intermolecular diffusion, and low ratio of amide to methylene group within the elastomer.

Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Self-Healing Topological Copolymers with a Comblike Structure

Yue Fang et al.

Summary: In this study, the self-healing behavior of comblike copolymers was investigated using CGMD simulation and NCI analysis. It was found that the spacing between side chains, the average molecular weight per backbone bond, and the flexibility of side chains significantly impact the mechanical properties and interpenetration of side chains in the system.
