Differential item functioning to validate setting of delivery compatibility in PROMIS-global health

Dylan J. Parker et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the correlation of PROMIS-GH scores across in-clinic versus remote delivery by evaluating differential item functioning within the GPH and GMH domains. The results showed no differential item functioning for GPH or GMH items across in-clinic versus remote delivery settings during the pre-operative, immediate post-operative, or 1-year post-operative window.

A method for remotely measuring physical function in large epidemiologic cohorts: Feasibility and validity of a video-guided sit-to-stand test

Erika Rees-Punia et al.

Summary: This study tested the feasibility and validity of a video-led, self-administered 30-second sit-to-stand test in a sub-cohort of the U.S.-based Cancer Prevention Study-3. The results suggest that this method is appropriate for participants of varying ages, body sizes, and activity levels, and can be implemented in large, longitudinal studies, as well as adapted for remote use during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cross-specialty PROMIS-global health differential item functioning

James J. Gregory et al.

Summary: This study investigated the functioning of PROMIS-GH across different clinical settings, patient ages, and medical complexities, finding no differential item functioning (DIF) within the GMH and GPH domains across age groups, medical complexity, or clinical environment. Items assessing GMH and GPH within the PROMIS-GH were found to function comparably across treatment setting, age category, and medical comorbidities.

Two-dimensional video-based analysis of human gait using pose estimation

Jan Stenum et al.

Summary: The author suggests that novel pose estimation algorithms can automatically track human movement for analyzing human gait, moving away from the dependence on laboratories. Their research shows that their workflow can accurately estimate gait parameters, and discusses the impact of camera viewpoint on the results.

Comparison of OpenPose and HyperPose artificial intelligence models for analysis of hand-held smartphone videos

Frederick Zhang et al.

Summary: Movement assessments are essential in clinical practice, however, the feasibility of in-person evaluations has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. A virtual assessment system that uses AI and patient-provided videos is needed to overcome this barrier. This study evaluated the clinical usefulness of two popular pose inference models, OpenPose and HyperPose, and found that OpenPose produced significantly better scores within videos compared to HyperPose.

OpenPose: Realtime Multi-Person 2D Pose Estimation Using Part Affinity Fields

Zhe Cao et al.

Summary: This work presents a real-time approach to detect the 2D pose of multiple people in an image, achieving high accuracy and real-time performance regardless of the number of people in the image. By refining PAFs separately, both runtime performance and accuracy are significantly improved. Additionally, the first combined body and foot keypoint detector reduces inference time and maintains accuracy compared to running them sequentially.
