Nanogradient Hydrophilic/Hydrophobic Organosilica Membranes Developed by Atmospheric-Pressure Plasma to Enhance Pervaporation Performance

Shun Aoyama et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel atmospheric-pressure water vapor plasma modification method was developed to enhance the pervaporation performance of organosilica membranes. The plasma treatment significantly improved the surface hydrophilicity and molecular sieving properties of the membranes, leading to high selectivity and permeance in the dehydration of alcohol solutions.

Ultrafast Synthesis of Silica-Based Molecular Sieve Membranes in Dielectric Barrier Discharge at Low Temperature and Atmospheric Pressure

Hiroki Nagasawa et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the ultrafast synthesis of silica membranes in atmospheric-pressure, low-temperature plasma, with direct deposition leading to the formation of a thin silica layer on the substrate. Increased deposition temperature improved the inorganic nature of the plasma-deposited layer and enhanced membrane performance. The resulting membranes showed outstanding permeance for small gas molecules, providing a nonthermal alternative for silica-based membranes fabrication.
