Nanoscale Metafoils with Enhanced Mechano-Optical Properties for Solar Radiation Isolation

Angelos Xomalis et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate the use of nanoscale metafoils with plasmon resonances to interact with visible radiation and reflect unwanted infrared radiation. The nanomechanical design of these metafoils allows them to withstand high strains without cracking, and their crack spacing can be tailored by choosing appropriate structural parameters. These small, resilient, and lightweight metafoils are highly important in harsh environments.

Interfering Plasmons in Coupled Nanoresonators to Boost Light Localization and SERS

Angelos Xomalis et al.

Summary: The combination of plasmonic self-assembled nanocavities and micrometer-scale resonators can achieve extreme light localization and intensity enhancement, leading to significantly larger surface-enhanced Raman scattering signals, enabling remote access to molecules without direct irradiation to prevent molecular damage. A generalized boundary element method solver has been developed to reduce computational resources required for characterizing these systems effectively. This opens up new potential for single-molecule photonic circuits, mid-infrared detectors, and remote spectroscopy.
