Three-dimensional vs two-dimensional endoscopic approach in urogynecology: A retrospective cohort study of laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy

Yaman Degirmenci et al.

Summary: This study compares the use of three-dimensional laparoscopy and traditional two-dimensional laparoscopy for sacrocolpopexy. The results show that three-dimensional laparoscopy has advantages in terms of surgery duration and estimated blood loss compared to traditional two-dimensional laparoscopy. There were no significant differences in other surgical outcomes between the two groups.

Three-dimensional vision versus two-dimensional vision on laparoscopic performance of trainee surgeons: a systematic review and meta-analysis

S. Restaino et al.

Summary: This study compares the performance of Trainee Surgeons using 2D versus 3D/4K laparoscopy through a systematic review of the literature. The results showed that in simulated settings, trainee surgeons using 3D laparoscopy made fewer errors in performing skill tasks compared to those using 2D laparoscopy. However, in clinical studies, there was no significant difference in the time taken for specific laparoscopic procedures between the two groups.

Learning laparoscopic hysterectomy: analysis of different surgeons' individual learning curves

Malte Schutzenduebel et al.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to examine the development of surgical skills among surgeons learning total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) by comparing complication rates and individual operating times between surgeons with different levels of experience. The study included 576 TLH procedures performed between January 2015 and December 2019 at a municipal hospital in Germany. The results showed no differences in complication rates between experienced and inexperienced surgeons. As the number of procedures increased, most surgeons became faster, leading to reduced operating times. However, experienced surgeons who had performed over 100 procedures also improved their operating times, and a time plateau was not reached even after adjustment for various factors.

The Learning Curve of Laparoendoscopic Single-Site Surgery in Benign Gynecological Diseases

Jun Ma et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the learning curve of laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) in benign gynecological diseases. The results showed that surgeon's experience in conventional laparoscopic surgery (CLS) is the key factor for mastering the LESS technique, particularly in ovarian cystectomy and myomectomy.

Rates of severe complications in patients undergoing colorectal surgery for deep endometriosis-a retrospective multicenter observational study

Gernot Hudelist et al.

Summary: Surgical experience and hospital procedure volumes have been associated with the risk of severe complications in expert centers for endometriosis. This retrospective study investigated the surgical outcomes of 937 women who underwent surgery for colorectal endometriosis in 19 participating expert centers. The study found a high variability in complication rates in centers with a low volume of activity.

Paulina Szymczak et al.

Summary: The study examined the learning curve and perioperative complications of laparoscopic pectopexy. Results showed that operative time, intraoperative bleeding, and hospital stay were related to concomitant laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy. Severe complications rate was low, with most patients not requiring conversion to open surgery or blood transfusion.
