Rice functional genomics: decades' efforts and roads ahead

Rongzhi Chen et al.

Summary: Rice, as one of the most important crops in the world, has seen significant progress in understanding molecular mechanisms and regulatory networks in various rice traits over the past few decades. Advanced technologies such as new genomics methods, high-throughput phenotyping platforms, precise genome-editing tools, environmental microbiome optimization, and synthetic methods will further enhance our understanding of unresolved molecular biology questions in rice and facilitate their integration into agricultural applications.

Identification of One Major QTL and a Novel Gene OsIAA17q5 Associated with Tiller Number in Rice Using QTL Analysis

Dan-Dan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the inheritance of tiller numbers in rice and identified a major effect locus on chromosome 5. Through candidate gene screening, the gene OsIAA17q5 was found to play a crucial role in regulating tiller numbers. These findings provide further understanding of the genetic mechanisms controlling tiller numbers in different growth stages.

Finding Stable QTL for Plant Height in Super Hybrid Rice

Huali Yang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the genetic basis of plant height in the high-yielding hybrid rice variety Nei2You No.6. A total of 19 minor/medium-effect QTLs were mapped over four years, and several QTLs were repeatedly detected. The qPH-6, located on chromosome 4, showed the highest phenotypic variation explained (PVE) and additive effect. Evaluation of near isogenic lines (NILs) confirmed the positive regulation of plant height by the qPH-6 allele, resulting in increased grain yield.

Effect of Temperature and Radiation on Indica Rice Yield and Quality in Middle Rice Cropping System

Debao Tu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the growth, yield, and quality-related traits of rice under different ecological regions. The results demonstrated that temperature is a limiting factor, and the growth, yield, and quality of rice are closely associated with temperature.

Novel QTL Associated with Shoot Branching Identified in Doubled Haploid Rice (Oryza sativa L.) under Low Nitrogen Cultivation

Young-Ho Kwon et al.

Summary: The study investigated shoot branching in rice and revealed significant differences in tiller number among different genotypes under varying nitrogen conditions. Multiple genetic loci were found to influence tiller number, potentially indicating a shared pathway between plant growth regulation and stress response mechanisms.
