Memory of famine: The persistent impact of famine experience on food waste behavior

On-farm post-harvest loss and loss reduction methods: evidence from China

Summary: Reducing post-harvest loss and waste is an important method to address food security challenges. A survey in China found that different crops experienced varying levels of post-harvest loss, with maize, rice, and wheat having loss rates of 4.36%, 5.21%, and 5.67% respectively. Furthermore, 1.73% of total food is wasted during consumption each day. These losses and waste lead to significant waste of grain, land, water resources, and carbon emissions.

A Comparison of Mental Health among Earthquake, Tsunami, and Nuclear Power Plant Accident Survivors in the Long Term after the Great East Japan Earthquake

Drivers of Postharvest Loss among Citrus Farmers in Eastern Cape Province of South Africa: A Zero-Inflated Poisson (ZIP) Regression Model Analysis

Summary: Reducing postharvest losses in the South African citrus industry is essential for ensuring food, income, and nutrition security. However, limited knowledge on the extent of these losses and their associated factors hampers effective management strategies and scaling up across production zones. This study assessed the magnitude and diversity of these losses and identified social, economic, institutional, and cross-cutting factors as determinants. Targeted capacity building, promotion of specific citrus cultivars, investment in water-efficient irrigation systems, intensification of pest and disease control, and subsidized support for citrus plantations are recommended to reduce postharvest losses.
