Effects of Microencapsulated Probiotics on Performance, Organ Development, Diarrhoea Incidences, Blood Parameters, Intestinal Histomorphology and Microflora in Weaning Piglets

Nicoleta Aurelia Lefter et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the effects of dietary supplementation of microencapsulated L. acidophilus and L. plantarum, individually or in combination, on various aspects of weaned piglets, including growth performance, organ development, diarrhoea incidences, blood profiles, intestinal histomorphology, and microflora. The results showed that the supplementation of probiotics increased feed intake and decreased diarrhoea incidence, while the combination of L. acidophilus and L. plantarum had the most beneficial effects on intestinal morphology and microbial populations.

Effect of Dietary Salicin Standardized Extract from Salix alba Bark on Oxidative Stress Biomarkers and Intestinal Microflora of Broiler Chickens Exposed to Heat Stress

Mihaela Saracila et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of salicin standardized extract from Salix alba bark (SAB) on oxidative stress biomarkers and intestinal microflora of broiler chickens exposed to heat stress. Results showed that SAB reduced liver malondialdehyde and protein carbonyls activity, while increasing total antioxidant capacity and glutathione concentration. Dietary supplementation with SAB also decreased the abundance of staphylococci and increased the number of lactobacilli. In conclusion, SAB has beneficial effects on liver oxidative status and intestinal microflora balance in broilers exposed to heat stress.

Nutritional Composition and Bioactive Compounds of Basil, Thyme and Sage Plant Additives and Their Functionality on Broiler Thigh Meat Quality

Petru Alexandru Vlaicu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the chemical composition and bioactive compounds of basil, thyme, and sage, and their impact on the quality of broiler chicken meat. The results showed that adding these herbs significantly increased the concentration of zinc, polyphenols, antioxidant capacity, and vitamin E in the meat samples. The fatty acid composition of the meat was also improved, and these herbs exhibited a hypocholesterolemic effect.

Broiler meat fatty acids composition, lipid metabolism, and oxidative stability parameters as affected by cranberry leaves and walnut meal supplemented diets

Arabela Elena Untea et al.

Summary: A randomized complete block design with a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement was used to evaluate the effects of walnut meal and cranberry leaves supplements on tissue lipid profile, lipid metabolism indices, and oxidative stability of meat in broilers. The results showed that diets enriched in linolenic acid (LNA) led to meat with higher LNA content, while the supplementation of natural antioxidants stimulated the synthesis of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC n-3 PUFA). Among the supplements, cranberry leaves had the most powerful effect in counteracting meat oxidation processes.

Production systems and important antimicrobial resistant-pathogenic bacteria in poultry: a review

Philip H. W. Mak et al.

Summary: Bacterial diseases in poultry production result in economic losses and market constraints. The use of antibiotics has contributed to the selection and spread of antimicrobial resistant bacteria, posing a global threat. Poultry producers are adopting antibiotic-free and organic practices to control pathogens, but their impact on antimicrobial resistance profiles in the poultry gut microbiome is not well understood.

Essential Oils in Broiler Chicken Production, Immunity and Meat Quality: Review of Thymus vulgaris, Origanum vulgare, and Rosmarinus officinalis

Nikola Puvaca et al.

Summary: The use of essential oils as a substitute for antibiotic growth promoters in animal nutrition, specifically in broiler nutrition, has gained attention. The efficacy of essential oils varies depending on factors such as dietary composition, feed inclusion level, and bird genetics. Despite limited information on the effects of essential oils on nutrient digestibility, gut function, and the immune system, research supports their potential use as natural growth promoters for broilers.

Impact of Dietary Lavender Essential Oil on the Growth and Fatty Acid Profile of Breast Muscles, Antioxidant Activity, and Inflammatory Responses in Broiler Chickens

Shimaa A. Amer et al.

Summary: This study found that lavender essential oil had no effect on the growth performance of broiler chickens, but could improve antioxidant capacity and enrich breast muscles with polyunsaturated fatty acids. Increasing supplementation levels may lead to inflammatory responses in broiler chickens.

Productive parameters, cecal microflora, nutrient digestibility, antioxidant status, and thigh muscle fatty acid profile in broiler chickens fed with Eucalyptus globulus essential oil

H. Mohebodini et al.

Summary: The dietary inclusion of eucalyptus essential oil improved broiler chickens' growth performance, antioxidant activity, nutrient digestibility, and maintained cecal microflora balance. It also led to a decrease in feed conversion ratio, an increase in body weight gain, and improvement in thigh muscle fatty acid profile.

Effects of Grape Seed Oil Supplementation to Broilers Diets on Growth Performance, Meat Fatty Acids, Health Lipid Indices and Lipid Oxidation Parameters

Raluca Paula Turcu et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the effects of GSO supplementation on broilers fed PUFA-enriched diets. GSO had no significant impact on productivity parameters, but improved final weight. Thigh meat showed increased SFA content and decreased PUFA content with GSO diets, indicating improved oxidative stability.
