Efficacy of low oxygen against Trogoderma granarium Everts, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) and Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) in commercial applications

Maria K. Sakka et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of nitrogen treatment in controlling Trogoderma granarium, Tribolium castaneum, and Callosobruchus maculatus in different commodities. The results showed that nitrogen treatment had a good control effect on these insects, with larvae of T. granarium being more tolerant than adults and eggs.

Utilizing low oxygen to mitigate resistance of stored product insects to phosphine

Paraskevi Agrafioti et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of modified atmospheres against phosphine-resistant stored product insect populations at a commercial scale. Results showed 100% mortality for both beetle species across different populations, regardless of temperature and exposure intervals. Simulation results demonstrated that nitrogen easily penetrated currants and distributed uniformly across pallets, with lower temperatures having no impact on nitrogen concentration profiles.

Insecticidal effect of heat treatment in commercial flour and rice mills for the control of phosphine-resistant insect pests

Maria K. Sakka et al.

Summary: The study showed that heat treatment in commercial flour and rice mills has the potential to effectively control major pest species with high adult mortality and suppressed progeny mortality, regardless of their susceptibility to phosphine.

Control of Stored Agro-Commodity Pests Sitophilus granarius and Callosobruchus chinensis by Nitrogen Hypoxic Atmospheres: Laboratory and Field Validations

Radek Aulicky et al.

Summary: Due to the complexity of controlled atmospheres in agro-commodities protection, there is a lack of scientific documentation on the practical usage of inert gases. This study evaluated the effectiveness of hypoxic and anoxic nitrogen atmospheres in controlling two major pests in grain storage, Sitophilus granarius and Callosobruchus chinensis, under laboratory and field conditions.

Insecticidal effect of diatomaceous earth and pirimiphos-methyl against phosphine-susceptible and phosphine-resistant populations of two stored product beetle species

Maria K. Sakka et al.

Summary: The study found that diatomaceous earth showed stable control efficacy on Tribolium castaneum, while pirimiphos-methyl had varied effectiveness at different concentrations. Sitophilus oryzae populations were more susceptible to both insecticides. The results indicate the importance of preliminary screening to ensure the success of resistance management programs.
