The efficacy of group delivered mentalization-based parenting interventions: A systematic review of the literature

Summary: Mentalization refers to the capacity to understand and interpret one's own and others mental states. Individual treatments aimed at increasing mentalization have shown good evidence with children and adolescents. However, there is a lack of focused research on group-delivered mentalization-based parenting interventions. This study systematically reviewed the literature on group-delivered mentalization-based parenting interventions and found that there were improvements in parental reflective functioning in most studies, but mixed evidence for other parental and child outcomes. Further high-quality studies with diverse participants and long-term follow-ups are needed.

Parental stress and physical violence against children during the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic: results of a population-based survey in Germany

Summary: The study aimed to explore the interplay of parental stress, changes in parental stress, and physical violence against children during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that higher parental stress levels were associated with more physical violence against children, higher levels of own experiences of child maltreatment, and mental health symptoms. During the pandemic, an increase in parental stress was associated with female sex, the use of physical violence against children, and parental experience of child maltreatment. Therefore, the study emphasizes the importance of providing low threshold support for families at risk during crises.
