Abusive head trauma in children: radiographs of the skull do not provide additional information in the diagnosis of skull fracture when multiplanar computed tomography with three-dimensional reconstructions is available

Summary: This study investigated the accuracy of multiplanar CT with 3-D reconstructions alone in diagnosing skull fractures in suspected physical abuse imaging. The results showed that using multiplanar CT with 3-D reconstructions alone was as accurate as performing both CT and skull radiography, while performing skull radiography alone was less accurate.

Neonatal Abusive Head Trauma without External Injuries: Suspicion Improves Diagnosis

Diagnosis of AHT remains a challenge when parents do not report trauma in preverbal infants. Reasonable suspicion of abuse, in combination with thorough physical examination, neuroimaging, and skilled neuroradiologist, can improve diagnosis and help victims in a timely manner.

The use of exome sequencing has shown significant incremental yield in single-system anomalies, making it a valuable tool for routine clinical care in fetuses with congenital abnormalities.
