Achieving High Quantum Efficiency Broadband NIR Mg4Ta2O9:Cr3+ Phosphor Through Lithium-Ion Compensation

Shangwei Wang et al.

Summary: Ultra-efficient broadband near-infrared (NIR) phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (pc-LEDs) are urgently needed to improve detection sensitivity and spatial resolution of smart NIR spectroscopy. By modifying a blue LED excitable Cr3+-doped tetramagnesium ditantalate (Mg4Ta2O9, MT) phosphor through lithium ion, a high optical output power and record external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 61.25% at 450 nm excitation are achieved. A prototype NIR pc-LED made with MT:Cr3+, Li+ demonstrates an NIR output power of 53.22 mW and a photoelectric conversion efficiency of 25.09% at 10 mA.

Evaluation of scintillation properties of Mg4(Ta,Nb)2O9 single crystals

Taisei Hayashi et al.

Summary: Mg-4(Ta,Nb)(2)O-9 single crystals were synthesized and their photoluminescence and scintillation properties were evaluated. The Mg4Ta2O9 crystal emitted light at 350nm under X-ray irradiation, while the Nb-contained samples emitted light at 400nm. The decay curves indicated a decay time in the order of microseconds. Among the samples, Mg4Ta1.5Nb0.5O9 showed the highest light yield of 22,000 ph/MeV and the lowest afterglow levels of around 10 ppm.

Visible-Near Infrared Scintillation Properties of Er-Doped Bi4Si3O12 Single Crystals

Kensei Ichiba et al.

Summary: We synthesized different concentrations of Er-doped Bi4Si3O12 single crystals and studied their photoluminescence and scintillation properties. The samples showed absorption peaks in transmission spectra due to the transitions of Er3+ ions. The emissions in photoluminescence and scintillation properties were caused by transitions of Bi3+ and Er3+ ions. The 2.0% Er-doped sample had the highest scintillation intensity among all the samples.

Optical and radioluminescence properties of Pr-doped BaTi4O9 crystals synthesized by the floating zone method

Hiromi Kimura et al.

Summary: Pr-doped BaTi4O9 crystals were grown by the floating zone method, and their optical and near-infrared radioluminescence properties were investigated. Sharp peaks around 630 nm due to 4f-4f transitions of Pr3+ ions were observed in the photoluminescence and radioluminescence spectra. Strong emission peaks around 1100 nm in the near-infrared range were confirmed, and the radioluminescence intensity of 1.0% Pr-doped crystals was the highest among the prepared crystals. The minimum sensitivity of the detector was 0.3 Gy h(-1) for the 1.0% Pr-doped crystal.

Synthesis, structure, and scintillation of Rb4Ta2Si8O23

Darren Carone et al.

Summary: A new tantalum silicate, Rb4Ta2Si8O23, was synthesized and found to exhibit intense blue luminescence and scintillation. The crystal structure of Rb4Ta2Si8O23 consists of SiO4 tetrahedra and TaO6 octahedra, and its scintillation performance is similar to that of BGO powder.

X-ray-Induced Scintillation Properties of Nd-Doped Bi4Si3O12 Crystals in Visible and Near-Infrared Regions

Kensei Ichiba et al.

Summary: In this study, undoped and Nd-doped BSO crystals with different Nd doping levels were synthesized by the floating zone method. It was found that the samples exhibited similar photoluminescence and X-ray-induced scintillation properties, with variations in PL quantum yield and afterglow levels based on the Nd doping level.

Summary: By doping ZBS, the sintering temperature of Mg4Nb2O9 ceramics was successfully lowered, leading to an increase in dielectric constant but a decrease in quality factor. Under 0.15 mol% ZBS doping, good microwave dielectric properties were obtained for the ceramics.

Sensitization of Er3+ NIR emission using Yb3+ ions in alkaline-earth chloro borate glasses for fiber laser and optical fiber amplifier applications

Rupesh A. Talewar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the sensitization of Er3+ ions near infrared emission using Yb3+ as a sensitizer in AECB glasses, showing the enhancement in NIR emission with varying Yb3+ doping ion concentration. The energy level diagram aptly elucidates the effect, and the results suggest the superior nature of Er3+ and Yb3+ co-doped AECB glasses for laser and fiber amplifier applications.

Scintillation light yield of Tb:Sr2Gd8(SiO4)6O2

Kenichi Watanabe et al.

Summary: In this study, a scintillation light yield evaluation system was developed for scintillators with millisecond decay time, utilizing digital signal processing and analog integration circuit. Pulse shape discrimination technique was introduced to remove effects of pile-up events. The Tb:SrGS scintillator showed 2.8 times higher scintillation light yield compared to BGO, evaluated at 23,000 photons MeV-1.
