Controllable atom-photon entanglement via quantum interference near plasmonic nanostructure

Behzad Sangshekan et al.

Summary: This article proposes a five-level atomic system in the vicinity of a two-dimensional plasmonic nanostructure with application in atom-photon entanglement. The behavior of the atom-photon entanglement is discussed with and without a control laser field. The degree of entanglement is controlled by quantum interference created by the plasmonic nanostructure, and is affected by the distance between the atom and the nanostructure. Maximum entanglement between the atom and its spontaneous emission field is observed in the presence of a control field.

Quantum emitters in 2D materials: Emitter engineering, photophysics, and integration in photonic nanostructures

Mehran Kianinia et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the recent advancements in engineering quantum emitters in two-dimensional systems, with a particular emphasis on transition metal di-chalcogenides and hexagonal boron nitride. The discovery of interlayer excitons and emerging phenomena, such as super-resolution imaging and optical spin readout, are highlighted. Practical applications of integrating emitters with plasmonic and dielectric photonic cavities are also discussed.

Controlling Resonance Fluorescence Spectra and Photon Statistics in a Driven V-Type Quantum Emitter-Metal Nanoparticle Coupled Structure

Spyridon G. Kosionis et al.

Summary: We studied the resonant fluorescence emission spectrum and intensity-intensity correlations of a V-type quantum emitter located near a metal nanosphere. By using the density matrix equations methodology and electromagnetic calculations, we obtained results for the profile of the resonant fluorescence spectrum and the second-order correlation functions of the emitted fluorescent field. The distance between the quantum emitter and the metal nanoparticle strongly influenced the decay rates, coupling term, and resonance fluorescence. The resonant fluorescence spectrum was found to have five Lorentzian-type peaks for high interparticle distances, but a single-peaked spectral profile appeared when the emitter was very close to the nanosphere surface. The two-time correlation functions of the emitted field oscillated around unity with a period that decreased as the field intensity increased. In the strong driving field regime, the crossing time from antibunching to bunching did not depend on the distance between particles, in contrast to the results in the weak driving field regime. For a weak laser field and specific conditions, the second-order correlation functions always remained in the antibunching region.

Quantum Interference in Spontaneous Decay of a Quantum Emitter Placed in a Dimer of Bismuth-Chalcogenide Microparticles

Nikolaos Kyvelos et al.

Summary: The phenomenon of quantum interference in spontaneous emission is investigated in this study for a three-level V-type quantum emitter placed between two bismuth-chalcogenide microspheres. The high degree of quantum interference is attributed to the strong dependence of the spontaneous emission rate on the orientation of an atomic dipole relative to the surfaces of the microspheres, at the excitation frequencies of phonon-polariton states of the bismuth-chalcogenide microspheres. The reported values of the degree of quantum interference are record values and are obtained for a relatively simple geometrical setup such as that of a microparticle dimer.

Quantum interference near bismuth-chalcogenide microstructures

Dimitrios Karaoulanis et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the quantum interference between two spontaneous emission channels can be greatly enhanced when a three-level V-type quantum emitter is placed near bismuth chalcogenide. The high values of quantum interference observed can trigger various phenomena associated with the interference of spontaneous emission channels.

Quantum Optics in Nanostructures

Yulia V. Vladimirova et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the effects of quantum optics in nanostructures, including the modification of radiative and nonradiative decay rates in a model of a two-level quantum emitter near a plasmonic nanoparticle. The analysis also covers the distributions of intensity and polarization of the near field around the nanoparticle, which depend on the external field polarization and parameters of plasmon resonances. Furthermore, the review discusses the effects of quantum optics in the system involving a nanoparticle, quantum emitter, and external laser field, such as modification of resonance fluorescence spectrum, bunching/antibunching phenomena, quantum statistics of photons, formation of squeezed states of light, and quantum entangled states.
