Green Lean Six Sigma for sustainability improvement: a systematic review and future research agenda

Finite Element Analysis of Graphene Oxide Hinge Structure-based RF NEM Switch

Summary: This study focuses on the design and simulation of a hinge structure-based graphene oxide nanoelectromechanical (NEM) switch. Finite Element Modeling (FEM) using COMSOL Multiphysics was performed to analyze different design parameters. The results show that beam length has a negative correlation with pull-in voltage and von Mises stress, while beam thickness and air gap have a positive correlation. A long and thin suspended beam requires low pull-in voltage and experiences less von Mises stress. Von Mises stress is especially significant at beam edges, perforation corners, and the beam-top electrode interface due to the edge termination effect.

Green lean six sigma sustainability - oriented project selection and implementation framework for manufacturing industry

Summary: This study aims to select sustainability-oriented Green Lean Six Sigma (GLS) projects for the manufacturing industry and proposes an implementation framework for improved organizational performance. The selection process is based on six sustainability criteria with weights determined through the entropy method. The projects are ranked using grey relation analysis (GRA), and the most significant GLS project is found to be machine shop with a grey relation grade of 0.4742.

The commitment of management and financial availability are found to be the most important factors in achieving GLSS success. Embedding sustainable measures, real-time data collection, and feedback and corrective actions directly support the implementation of GLSS in healthcare facilities.

Green Lean Six Sigma for improving manufacturing sustainability: Framework development and validation

Summary: In the past few decades, manufacturing industries have been forced to focus on sustainability alongside operational efficiency due to a competitive landscape, learned customers, and rigorous regulations. This study developed a systematic Green Lean Six Sigma (GLSS) framework that aims to improve operational efficiency while considering environmental and social sustainability. The framework was tested in a leading manufacturing company and incorporates different tools of the Green paradigm, Lean, and Six Sigma, from problem identification and assessment to the implementation of measures. Lifecycle assessment and social lifecycle assessment were used to evaluate environmental and societal performance. The GLSS framework, with its sustainability focus, enhances environmental capability, process performance, and provides a new perspective for researchers and practitioners in achieving higher sustainability dynamics in GLSS projects.

Utilizing an innovative approach such as Green Lean Six Sigma (GLS) is crucial for companies to enhance their social and environmental performance. This study reviewed past research, identified indicators and evaluation criteria for GLS projects, and successfully predicted selected projects using the ANFIS method. The findings emphasized the importance of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) in the performance of GLS projects.
