High Efficiency Catalytic Transfer Hydrogenation of Furfural to Furfuryl Alcohol Over Metallic Oxide Catalyst

Zonghui Liu et al.

Summary: A highly efficient catalytic system based on acidic or basic oxide catalysts was studied for the conversion of furfural to furfuryl alcohol. Acidic Al2O3 was identified as the most effective catalyst, achieving high conversion and selectivity. The catalyst's physical and chemical properties, such as large specific surface area and high acidity, were found to be crucial for its performance.

Dehydrogenation and dehydration of formic acid over orthorhombic molybdenum carbide

Kushagra Agrawal et al.

Summary: In this study, the dehydrogenation and dehydration of formic acid on the beta-Mo2C (100) catalyst surface were investigated using time independent density functional theory. It was found that dehydrogenation mechanism is faster and leads to continuous formation of CO2. Temperature-programmed desorption experiments showed that HCOOH adsorption on the surface can achieve high selectivity for CO2 desorption at temperatures below 350 K.
