Adsorption of Pb2+and Cd2+on reduced graphene oxide hydrogel prepared from natural cryptocrystalline graphite

Yang Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, a graphene hydrogel with small pore size and high specific surface area was successfully prepared from unpurified natural cryptocrystalline graphite and used for adsorbing Pb2+ and Cd2+ from aqueous solution. The adsorption capacity of the reduced graphene oxide hydrogel increased with pH and followed the Langmuir monolayer adsorption model and pseudo second-order kinetic model. The maximum adsorption capacities for Pb2+ and Cd2+ were 2503.62 mg/g and 1185.27 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption process was quick, completing within 5 minutes, and the graphene hydrogel remained stable after multiple adsorption-desorption cycles.

Rinad Hamed et al.

Summary: Graphene oxide-chitosan composites have sparked interest as an eco-friendly adsorbent for aquatic pollutants. This study synthesized functionalized graphene-chitosan to remove sulfamethazine as a model antibiotic. Optimal adsorption parameters were pH 7, temperature 25°C, and initial antibiotic concentration of 50 ppm. Pseudo-second-order kinetics and Freundlich isotherm model were found to best describe the adsorption. The regeneration of the composite material was also successful.
