Summary: This study investigated the impact of diurnal asymmetric warming on soil fungal diversity in an alpine agricultural system in Tibet. The results showed that nighttime warming significantly increased the abundance and species richness of soil fungi. However, warming did not have a significant effect on phylogenetic and functional diversity or composition. The study also found a correlation between soil fungal diversity and crop yield.

The Validation of Soil Moisture from Various Sources and Its Influence Factors in the Tibetan Plateau

Na Li et al.

Summary: The evaluation of soil moisture data in the Tibetan Plateau reveals an overestimation and underestimation of SMAP and ERA5 SM, with GLDAS-Noah SM performing the best at the regional scale. At the site scale, SMAP SM shows relatively high correlations and low errors, while the other three products underestimate the soil moisture in different degrees. Additionally, rainfall and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) show different correlations with the different SM products, and land surface temperature (LST) exhibits opposite correlations in different seasons.

Estimating soil moisture conditions for drought monitoring with random forests and a simple soil moisture accounting scheme

Yves Tramblay et al.

Summary: Soil moisture is crucial for drought monitoring, but the networks for measuring soil moisture are limited. This study regionalized a soil moisture accounting model using a high-resolution land-surface model as reference. Two approaches for estimating soil water holding capacity were compared, and the results showed that the random forest model estimates were more robust, especially for low soil moisture levels. Therefore, this proposed approach can simulate daily soil moisture and monitor soil moisture droughts in the absence of high-resolution soil maps.
