Critical selection of shear sheltering in electroconvective flow from chaotic to steady state

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: This paper reveals the critical selection of shear velocity regarding the fluid from a chaotic to a steady state through numerical and theoretical analyses. It introduces the dimensionless Debye length and voltage difference to achieve a comprehensive discussion of the factors affecting the shear vortex state. Furthermore, a critical shear velocity is proposed to distinguish the electroconvective flow from a chaotic state to a steady state for ionic fluid control by shear flow.

Effect of current-induced coion transfer on the shape of chronopotentiograms of cation-exchange membranes

V. D. Titorova et al.

Summary: Chronopotentiometry using constant current pulses is a powerful method for characterizing ion-exchange membranes, allowing for the quantification of coion transport based on ChP analysis. Coion transport can influence the shape of the chronopotentiogram, with potential peaks observed at overlimiting current densities due to increased coion transfer. Mathematical modeling based on Nernst-Planck-Poisson equations shows that the cause of these peaks is current-induced concentration polarization leading to increased coion transfer.

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy of Anion-Exchange Membrane AMX-Sb Fouled by Red Wine Components

Anton Kozmai et al.

Summary: Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy shows potential for assessing capacitance of interphase boundaries and resistance of foulant layers. Different contact conditions lead to variations in water splitting and resistance, with short-term contact affecting water splitting and longer contact causing biofouling to influence electrolysis.

Mathematical Modeling of the Effect of Pulsed Electric Field on the Specific Permselectivity of Ion-Exchange Membranes

Andrey Gorobchenko et al.

Summary: The application of pulsed electric field (PEF) in electrodialysis has proven to be efficient for increasing mass transfer rate, mitigation of scaling and fouling, and reducing water splitting. Experimental data shows that PEF mode can improve membrane permselectivity for specific counterions and reduce membrane concentration polarization. However, specific permeability does not increase if a different condition is used, indicating that it depends on the average current density and not on the mode of application.

Summary: Electrodialysis is commonly used in drinking water production and has found applications in new fields in recent years. Membrane characteristics and ion transport properties are crucial for the efficiency of electrodialysis, and studying ion transport across membranes is essential. Chronopotentiometry is a useful method to evaluate membrane transport properties and mass transfer phenomena.

Mathematical Modeling of the Phenomenon of Space-Charge Breakdown in the Galvanostatic Mode in the Section of the Electromembrane Desalination Channel

Aminat Uzdenova et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the phenomenon of space-charge breakdown in intensive current modes negatively affects the intensity of electroconvection and the efficiency of mass transfer in membrane systems. Through the first theoretical analysis, a relationship for the onset time of the space-charge breakdown in galvanostatic mode has been obtained, which can help determine the parameters for the effective operation of membrane systems.
