This study aimed to develop an ethosomal gel containing a triterpene enriched fraction from black cohosh and evaluate its efficacy through transdermal application. By using a quality by design approach, the optimized ethosomal gel showed better performance compared to the conventional gel. Additional animal studies are needed to further validate these results.

Summary: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disease with a very poor prognosis, is hindered by the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which restricts the access of drugs commonly used in ALS to the brain. In this study, riluzole-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) functionalized with lactoferrin (Lf) were prepared to overcome this limitation and increase brain targeting. The results showed that Lf-functionalized NLC exhibited a promising ability to target riluzole to the brain without causing significant toxicity to cells.

Curcumin and Quercetin-Loaded Lipid Nanocarriers: Development of Omega-3 Mucoadhesive Nanoemulsions for Intranasal Administration

The formulations prepared by two different methods exhibited good stability and similar incorporation of CUR and QU. Toxicity studies showed that the formulations were not toxic for Caenorhabditis elegans. The developed omega-3 fatty acid nanoemulsions have the potential to enhance the nose-to-brain permeation of CUR and QU for improved treatment efficacy.
