On-site carwash wastewater treatment and reuse: a systematic review

Summary: The carwash wastewater has unique quality characteristics and requires various treatment processes. The membrane process is the most commonly used method, followed by chemical coagulation, electrocoagulation, electrooxidation, and membrane bioreactor. The treatment efficiency for pollutants such as turbidity, oil content, and COD is reported to be high. However, there are limitations such as low water recovery rates, rapid fouling, sludge production, energy consumption, and changes in effluent quality. Therefore, short treatment time, optimal efficiency, operation condition, and high water recovery ratio are critical aspects of on-site treatment and reuse of carwash wastewater.

Industrial application of ceramic ultrafiltration membrane in cold-rolling emulsion wastewater treatment

Summary: The study utilized a commercial ZrO2/alpha-Al2O3 ceramic ultrafiltration membrane system to treat cold-rolling emulsion wastewater from an iron and steel industry in Central China. The membrane showed high removal efficiency for oil and chemical oxygen demand. Control strategies were proposed to mitigate membrane fouling and low permeation flux, resulting in prolonged operation time and reduced cleaning times. The total operating cost of the system was cheaper than conventional methods, making it an economical and efficient treatment for CREW.

Effectiveness of potassium ferrate (VI) as a green agent in the treatment and disinfection of carwash wastewater

Summary: Treatment of carwash wastewater with potassium ferrate (VI) under optimized conditions (pH 3.5, 0.328 g/L K2FeO4, 48 min) resulted in significant reduction of chemical oxygen demand (70.3%), total organic carbon (58.9%), total nitrogen (73.3%), total phosphorus (82.0%), as well as improvement in odor. Compared to FeCl3, potassium ferrate (VI) was more effective in reducing bacterial counts and proteolytic bacteria.

Industrial wastewater treatment using PES UF membranes containing hydrophilic additives: Experimental and modeling of fouling mechanism

Summary: The effects of different hydrophilic additives and coagulation bath temperature on the morphology and performance of PES ultrafiltration membranes were studied. PES/PVP membranes exhibited denser structure, while increasing CBT led to higher porosity and water permeability. Application of Capillary Polypropylene Membranes for Microfiltration of Oily Wastewaters: Experiments and Modeling
