Selective monitoring of ultra-trace guanine and adenine from hydrolyzed DNA using boron-doped carbon electrode surfaces

Mohammed Y. Emran et al.

Summary: Low-cost, sensitive, and selective electrode designs based on carbon microspheres and boron-doped carbon nanospheres were fabricated for ultra-trace detection of guanine and adenine from hydrolyzed DNA. The boron-doped carbon nanosphere electrode exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity for signaling guanine and adenine at low detection limits. The study suggests that boron-doped carbon nanospheres can be used for evaluating DNA distortion, immune system dysfunction, and abnormal mutation in human health quality.

Advanced Raman Spectroscopy Detection of Oxidative Damage in Nucleic Acid Bases: Probing Chemical Changes and Intermolecular Interactions in Guanosine at Ultralow Concentration

Francesca Ripanti et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel method for the identification, detection, and quantification of oxidized nucleotides using micro-Raman spectroscopy and ab initio calculations. The Raman signature in the terahertz spectral range contains information on the assembly of guanine in tetrads, allowing for improved detection of oxidative damage. Furthermore, advanced spectroscopic methods combined with surface-enhanced Raman scattering on superhydrophobic substrates enable analysis of samples at very low concentrations in small volumes.
