Molecular identification of glutathione S-transferase genes and their potential roles in insecticides susceptibility of Grapholita molesta

Songdou Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that the tolerance mechanisms of Grapholita molesta to insecticides are still unclear. It also showed that the susceptibility of G. molesta to three insecticides significantly increased when the activity of GST was inhibited. Furthermore, GmGSTo2, GmGSTs1, and GmGSTz1 were found to play important roles in the insecticide susceptibility of G. molesta.

Cloning and expression of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit II gene in Sitophilus zeamais and interaction mechanism with allyl isothiocyanate

Linlin Jiang et al.

Summary: AITC has been registered as an insecticide, bactericide, and nematicide in the United States. It has shown significant insecticidal activities against four stored product pests, including S. zeamais. This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of AITC's action on cytochrome c oxidase core subunits II in S. zeamais. The results showed that AITC competitively binds and inhibits the activity of COX II, and its sulfur atom forms a hydrogen bond with Ile-30.

Resistance monitoring and mechanism in the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) for chlorantraniliprole from Sichuan Province, China

Hui-Lin Chen et al.

Summary: This study conducted resistance monitoring of 11 field-collected populations of the fall armyworm in Sichuan Province, China. The results showed variations in resistance levels to different insecticides among the populations. Overexpression of certain genes and resistance to multiple classes of insecticides may contribute to the development of resistance to chlorantraniliprole in the fall armyworm.

Risk Assessment of Fluxametamide Resistance and Fitness Costs in Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda)

Debashis Roy et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the resistance risk of fall armyworm (FAW) to the insecticide fluxametamide and the associated fitness costs. Continuous exposure to fluxametamide did not result in an obvious increase in resistance in the FAW population after 10 generations of selection. The heritability of fluxametamide resistance was estimated as 0.084. Fluxametamide selection affected the development and reproductive traits of FAW, indicating a lower risk of resistance evolution.

Summary: Based on scaffold hopping and intermediate derivatization method, 44 novel pyridylpyrazolo carboxylate derivatives were designed and synthesized. Compound G35 showed the highest insecticidal activities, and structure-activity relationship analysis indicated that the introduction of amino group and acetamide improved insecticidal activity. Molecular docking model suggests that RyRs may be a potential target for this series of compounds.

A Binary Mixture of Emamectin Benzoate and Chlorantraniliprole Supplemented with an Adjuvant Effectively Controls Spodoptera frugiperda

Junteng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the toxicities of emamectin benzoate (EB) and chlorantraniliprole (CT) individually and in a mixture against the fall armyworm. The mixture showed a remarkable synergistic effect, and the addition of an oil adjuvant improved the efficacy of both the individual insecticides and the mixture. This study provides a promising insecticide-adjuvant mixture for controlling the fall armyworm.
