Physical loading in professional soccer players: Implications for contemporary guidelines to encompass carbohydrate periodization

Liam Anderson et al.

Summary: Despite decades of research, the quantification of training loads for adult male professional soccer players is relatively recent. Training loads are influenced by various factors, including season phase, position, game frequency, starting status, training goals, and coaching philosophy. Macronutrient perspective suggests that the periodization of physical loading and carbohydrate (CHO) intake has implications for the players' requirements. The concept of CHO periodization is gaining popularity, where intake is adjusted based on fuel demands and training goals.

Pre-sleep protein supplementation after an acute bout of evening resistance exercise does not improve next day performance or recovery in resistance trained men

Michael J. Ormsbee et al.

Summary: The study found that pre-sleep protein supplementation did not significantly improve next morning muscle damage biomarkers or maximal strength performance after an evening resistance training session in physically active men. However, it may lead to lower perceived hunger the following morning compared to a non-caloric placebo.
