Postnatal growth of preterm infants 24 to 26 weeks of gestation and cognitive outcomes at 2 years of age

Ariel A. Salas et al.

Summary: This study explores the association between postnatal growth alterations defined by INTERGROWTH-21st growth curves and adverse cognitive outcomes at 2 years of age. The results indicate that weightzscores below -1.0 at 36 weeks PMA and a decline in weightzscores from birth to 36 weeks PMA are associated with a higher risk of cognitive delay. Using alternative definitions for postnatal growth failure and malnutrition, the INTERGROWTH-21st growth curves can help predict cognitive outcomes in extremely preterm infants.

Barriers and facilitators to breastfeeding support practices in a neonatal intensive care unit in Colombia

Haley Abugov et al.

Summary: The study found that although NICU staff received education on mother and baby-friendly care, resources for breastfeeding support were limited, and infants were only allowed to consume milk expressed within the hospital. Factors such as mother-infant separation, staff beliefs, and care routines also restricted important breastfeeding support practices.
