Zhihao Hong et al.

Summary: This study successfully achieved the transition from superhydrophilicity to superhydrophobicity on alumina ceramics surface by inducing nested micro/nanostructures using fs laser. The superhydrophobic ceramics showed excellent anti-icing and frost resistance properties, and have a wide range of potential applications.

Investigating the in-flight droplets' atomization in suspension plasma-sprayed coating

E. Dalir et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional unsteady numerical model is used to study the atomization of droplets/particles in flight during suspension plasma spraying (SPS). The model incorporates electromagnetic fields, two-way coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian technique, and Kelvin-Helmholtz Rayleigh-Taylor breakup model to simulate droplets' interactions and atomization. The coefficients of the KHRT breakup model are modified for suspension atomization in the SPS process, with nine case studies conducted to investigate the effect of instabilities and liquid core length on atomization. The results show good agreement with existing data.

A review on challenges, recent progress and applications of silica nanoparticles based superhydrophobic coatings

Konica Sharma et al.

Summary: In recent decades, there has been a growing interest in the study of superhydrophobic coatings (SHCs) due to their wide-ranging applications in various industries. While there are numerous review papers on SHCs, minimal attention has been given to silica nanoparticles-based SHCs. However, silica nanoparticles are considered ideal materials for SHCs due to their abundance, affordability, transparency, and surface modification capabilities. This work focuses on the challenges, recent progress, and applications of silica nanoparticles-based superhydrophobic coatings.

Effect of suspension characteristics on the performance of thermal barrier coatings deposited by suspension plasma spray

Ashish Ganvir et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of suspension characteristics on the performance of suspension plasma sprayed thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), revealing that TBCs produced using different suspensions showed varied performance. TBCs produced using ethanol suspension exhibited the best TS lifetime, while TBCs produced using water suspension with solid load content showed the lowest lifetime. Additionally, TBCs produced using ethanol suspension showed slightly better thermal cyclic fatigue lifetime compared to TBCs produced using water and ethanol-water mixed suspensions.

Control of the hydrophobicity of rare earth oxide coatings deposited by solution precursor plasma spray by hydrocarbon adsorption

Pengyun Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the wetting behavior and surface composition of Yb2O3 and Al2O3 coatings under different post-deposition treatments, revealing that different treatments result in different wetting behaviors for Yb2O3 coatings, correlated with the content of hydrocarbon on the surface. Yb2O3 coatings can transition between superhydrophobicity and superhydrophilicity based on the post-deposition treatment, while Al2O3 coatings exhibit lower wetting behavior.

Aging Behavior of Water-Based YSZ Suspensions for Plasma Spraying of Thermal Barrier Coatings

Maryam Yaghtin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of three surfactants on the functional stability of water-based suspensions, and found that alpha-Terpineol is the most effective surfactant for producing stable suspensions with low viscosity and surface tension values. Plasma spraying of such stable suspensions results in the formation of thermal barrier coatings with columnar morphology and porosity in the range of 17 to 18 vol.%.
