pH-responsive phototherapeutic poly(acrylic acid)-calcium phosphate passivated TiO2 nanoparticle-based drug delivery system for cancer treatment applications

Jihoon Han et al.

Summary: This paper reports the hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of poly(acrylic acid)-calcium phosphate passivated TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2@PAA-CaP NPs), which demonstrated efficient loading and release of doxorubicin (DOX). The pH-responsive dissolution properties of the PAA-CaP passivation layer resulted in faster cumulative DOX release at acidic pH, leading to higher cytotoxicity towards MCF-7 tumor cells. The enhanced cellular uptake and intracellular release of DOX contributed to the higher total cytotoxicity of TiO2@PAA-CaP(DOX) NPs under UV-A irradiation due to the synergistic effect between efficient DOX delivery and enhanced photoinduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation.

Insight into the effects of the anchoring groups on the photovoltaic performance of unsymmetrical phthalocyanine based dye-sensitized solar cells

Gulenay Tunc et al.

Summary: Novel zinc phthalocyanine dyes with carboxyethynyl anchoring groups have been designed, synthesized, and tested as sensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells. The presence of carboxyethynyl groups effectively prevents dye aggregation, and mono-anchoring dye GT5 outperforms di-anchoring dyes in terms of power conversion efficiency. Time-dependent density functional theory was used to predict electronic absorption spectra, showing red-shifted charge transfer bands for dyes with carboxyethynyl groups.
