Carbon nitride nanotubes anchored with high-density CuNx sites for efficient degradation of antibiotic contaminants under photo-Fenton process: Performance and mechanism

Xiao Zhang et al.

Summary: A hollow-nanotube carbon nitride (Cu-HNCN) catalyst with CuNx sites dispersed in a hollow nanotube-like CN was constructed and used for the degradation of organic pollutants via the photo-Fenton process. The Cu-HNCN catalyst showed high specific surface area, rich porosity, and good visible-light trapping capability, leading to efficient degradation of various antibiotic contaminants. The Cu-HNCN catalyst also demonstrated improved stability and decreased copper leaching, contributing to the generation of abundant active species and efficient degradation of pollutants.

Boron doped C3N5 for photocatalytic nitrogen fixation to ammonia: The key role of boron in nitrogen activation and mechanism

Kang Li et al.

Summary: Compared to g-C3N4, g-C3N5 can efficiently utilize visible light and extend the lifetime of photogenerated carriers, leading to enhanced NH3 production. A boron-doped g-C3N5 catalyst (B-C3N5) was synthesized via a simple one-step calcination method for photocatalytic nitrogen fixation. B-C3N5 demonstrated significantly improved NH3 yield with a rate of 421.18 mu mol h(-1) g(-1). Raman and ESR analysis indicated that B tended to occupy the C vacancies in C3N5, thereby enhancing the charge transfer capability and optimizing the band structure of B-C3N5. The B sites exhibited excellent performance in N-2 adsorption and activation, leading to NH3 generation. In-situ DRIFTS was used to identify the intermediates of the NRR process, and a reaction mechanism was proposed to elucidate the role of B -O -H during N-2 adsorption, activation, and reduction.

Hydroxylamine promoted hydroxyl radical production and organic contaminants degradation in oxygenation of pyrite

Min Huang et al.

Summary: This study found that using hydroxylamine can enhance the degradation of organic contaminants by pyrite. In the Fenton-like pathway, the presence of hydroxylamine promotes the generation of reactive oxygen species, thereby increasing the efficient degradation of different organic contaminants.

Self-templating construction of flower-like mesoporous magnesium silicate composites from sepiolite for high-efficiency adsorption of aflatoxin B1

Yan Li et al.

Summary: In this study, flower-like mesoporous magnesium silicate composites (MMSCs) were successfully synthesized using a self-templating strategy. The microstructures and specific surface areas of MMSCs were investigated, and it was found that the synthesized MMSCs exhibited a high adsorption capacity for aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). The results indicated that the flower morphology and mesoporous structure of MMSCs provided a large surface area with multiple available adsorption sites, enabling effective bonding with AFB1.

Degradation of aflatoxin B1 by a recombinant laccase from Trametes sp. C30 expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae: A mechanism assessment study in vitro and in vivo

Yingli Liu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that recombinant laccase expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae can effectively degrade AFB1, producing less toxic degradation products. UPLC-MS analysis identified four main degradation products of AFB1 and proposed two potential degradation pathways. The toxicity of AFB1 degradation products was also evaluated, showing reduced cytotoxicity and hepatotoxicity compared to non-laccase degraded AFB1.
