Zr6O8-porphyrinic MOFs as promising catalysts for the boosting photocatalytic degradation of contaminants in high salinity wastewater

Zhiwei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, four Zr6O8-porphyrinic MOFs with different topologies were selected to investigate their performance and mechanisms for the removal of contaminants from hypersaline waters in a visible photocatalytic degradation system. The results showed that the porosity, pore size distribution, crystal defects, and surface electrical properties of the MOFs can affect their adsorption and photocatalytic degradation performance. The presence of anions was found to promote the adsorption of contaminants and facilitate the conduction of photogenerated electrons, thereby accelerating the degradation process. This study provides new insights into the application of porphyrin MOFs based visible photocatalytic processes for the treatment of highly saline wastewater.
