ON/OFF domains shape receptive field structure in mouse visual cortex

Elaine Tring et al.

Summary: The authors demonstrate the existence of ON/OFF domains in the mouse visual cortex, which are related to the distribution of ON/OFF receptive field centers. The diversity of cortical receptive fields can be explained by neurons linearly combining ON and OFF signals in their local neighborhoods. These findings suggest that the formation of ON/OFF domains is influenced by fluctuations in the balance of ON/OFF responses across the visual field.

Changes in pairwise correlations during running reshape global network state in the main olfactory bulb

Udaysankar Chockanathan et al.

Summary: The study reveals that running in mice increases the dimensionality of spontaneous neural activity, indicating the presence of higher order interactions among neurons during locomotion. This suggests that behavior can flexibly alter neuronal activity at the earliest stages of sensory processing.

Differences in cerebral blood vasculature and flow in awake and anesthetized mouse cortex revealed by quantitative optical coherence tomography angiography

Adiya Rakymzhan et al.

Summary: The study used optical coherence tomography (OCT) methods to quantitatively evaluate the effect of anesthesia on cerebral vasculature and blood flow in mice, finding that anesthesia caused vasodilation. Compared to other imaging modalities, OCT provides label-free assessment of cortical tissue with a larger field of view and higher imaging speed.
