Summary: Our study explores the impact of large yet reversible inactivation of the frontal eye fields (FEF) on the activity of the intermediate layers of the superior colliculus (iSC). The results demonstrate that during FEF inactivation, the iSC emits fewer spikes for metrically-matched saccades, with a greater decrease in spike count observed for more cognitively-demanding tasks.
