Solubility and Thermodynamic Properties of Clotrimazole in 16 Organic Solvents at Temperature of 283.15 to 323.15 K

Miao Ma et al.

Summary: The solubility of clotrimazole in 10 alcohols and 6 esters was determined experimentally using a laser dynamic solubility-monitoring device. Five different models were used to correlate the solubility with temperature, and all models showed satisfactory results. The thermodynamic mixing properties were also evaluated using the measured solubility values and Wilson model parameters.

Chitosan and Chitosan Nanoparticles: Parameters Enhancing Antifungal Activity

Pawel Poznanski et al.

Summary: Chitosan, derived from chitin, has strong antifungal activity and is biodegradable, biocompatible, and non-toxic. Chitosan nanoparticles can enhance its antifungal activity. Various parameters, such as molecular weight, degree of deacetylation, acetylation pattern, concentration, and protonation of chitosan, affect its antifungal activity and nanoparticle properties. Understanding these parameters is important for designing environmentally friendly plant protection strategies.

Chitosan-based delivery system enhances antimicrobial activity of chlorhexidine

Lisa Myrseth Hemmingsen et al.

Summary: Infected chronic skin wounds and other skin infections are becoming a growing concern due to the rise of antimicrobial resistance and biofilm-producing bacteria. In this study, the researchers aimed to investigate the potential of chitosan-containing and chitosan-coated liposomes as a delivery system for the membrane-active antimicrobial chlorhexidine to infected wounds. The results showed that the vesicles comprising chitosan had a slower release rate of chlorhexidine and high cell compatibility. Additionally, the vesicles reduced the inflammatory responses in macrophages and demonstrated strong antibacterial effects against Staphylococcus aureus. These findings suggest that chitosan-containing and chitosan-coated liposomes could serve as excellent platforms for delivering membrane-active antimicrobials to infected wounds.

Antimicrobial Actions and Applications of Chitosan

Cai-Ling Ke et al.

Summary: Chitosan, a naturally occurring product, has biocompatibility, biodegradability, and non-toxic properties, making it applicable in many areas. Its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity provides great commercial potential, but varies depending on its physicochemical characteristics and type of microorganism. Understanding the fundamental properties and modes of antimicrobial action of chitosan, as well as how microorganisms genetically respond to it, can lead to better applications.
