Lidocaine Pharmaceutical Multicomponent Forms: A Story about the Role of Chloride Ions on Their Stability

Cristobal Verdugo-Escamilla et al.

Summary: In this study, six new crystal forms of lidocaine were synthesized, and the solubility and stability of lidocaine hydrochloride were investigated. The results revealed an interesting steric stabilisation mechanism of the new crystalline forms obtained through the reaction of lidocaine hydrochloride with various coformers, which exhibited excellent physicochemical properties compared to lidocaine hydrochloride.

Bifurcated μ2-I•••(N,O) Halogen Bonding: The Case of (Nitrosoguanidinate)NiII Cocrystals with lodine(I)-Based σ-Hole Donors

Zarina M. Efimenko et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the cocrystallization of nitrosoguanidinate complexes with various iodine compounds to form new solid structures featuring asymmetric bifurcated halogen bonds. DFT calculations were used to evaluate the energetic features of these halogen bonds, revealing that the I...O contact is generally stronger than the I...N contact. Computational tools such as MEP, QTAIM, and NCIPlot were employed to characterize the bifurcated halogen bonds in the cocrystals.

Cocrystals of Propylthiouracil and Nutraceuticals toward Sustained-Release: Design, Structure Analysis, and Solid-State Characterization

Yuntian Xiao et al.

Summary: This study discovered four new cocrystals of propylthiouracil (PTU) with nutritional coformers, showing excellent stability and sustained-release effects, especially the PTU-KA cocrystal. The sustained-release effect may be attributed to enhanced lattice energies and hydrophobic interactions.

Cocrystallization: A tool to modulate physicochemical and biological properties of food-relevant polyphenols

Jonatas Lopes Dias et al.

Summary: Cocrystallization is considered a powerful tool to modulate the properties of food-related polyphenols, improving their solubility, bioavailability, and stability. Different methods can be used to produce polyphenol cocrystals, allowing for the modulation of their properties and bioactivity.
