Injectable hyaluronic acid hydrogels encapsulating drug nanocrystals for long-term treatment of inflammatory arthritis

Yongsheng Gao et al.

Summary: Antiproliferative chemotherapeutic agents show promise for treating inflammatory arthritis, but face limitations in clinical application due to high systemic toxicity and low joint bioavailability. A new intra-articular drug delivery system combining hyaluronic acid hydrogels and drug nanocrystals offers a potential solution for localized and sustained delivery of camptothecin, with positive results shown in rat models of collagen-induced arthritis.

Thermal Properties and Structural Features of Multilayer Films Based on Chitosan and Anionic Polysaccharides

Galina N. Gubanova et al.

Summary: This study investigated the thermal and structural properties of multilayer composites based on chitosan and different polyanions. The results showed that the type of polyanion used influenced the thermal degradation and crystallization behavior of the composite materials. Strong acid salts as counterions to chitosan led to strong interactions between layers, while weak polyacid salts resulted in weaker PEC formation.

Therapeutic effects of high molecular weight hyaluronic acid in severe Pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia in ex vivo perfused human lungs

Xiwen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HMW HA) can improve alveolar fluid clearance in ex vivo perfused human lungs injured with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA)103 bacterial pneumonia, while decreasing protein permeability and alveolar inflammation, but had no effect on bacterial counts. HMW HA also improved bacterial phagocytosis by human monocytes and neutrophils, and suppressed the inflammatory properties of EVs released during pneumonia on monocytes.
