Nitrogen-functionalized carbon nanotube based palladium nanoparticles as an efficient catalyst for oxygen reduction and ethanol oxidation reaction

Sabina Yasmin et al.

Summary: In this report, nitrogen-functionalized carbon nanotube supported palladium nanoparticles were synthesized using a facile chemical reduction method at room temperature. This material served as an electrocatalyst for both the electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction and ethanol oxidation reaction. The results showed that the nitrogen-functionalized carbon nanotube supported palladium nanoparticles exhibited better performance in terms of onset potential, current density, methanol tolerance, and long-term durability compared to commercial Pt/C catalyst in the oxygen reduction reaction. Additionally, it displayed enhanced catalytic activity for ethanol oxidation reaction with more negative onset potential and higher current density.

Effect of palladium on gold in core-shell catalyst for electrooxidation of ethanol in alkaline medium

Jose G. Ruiz-Montoya et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of small amounts of palladium deposited on gold nanoparticles supported on Vulcan XC-72 carbon for ethanol oxidation reaction. Au@Pd-0.10/C catalyst showed the highest current density and low onset potential for the oxidation reaction in alkaline medium. Characterization was done using various techniques and in-situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurements demonstrated acetate as the main product of ethanol oxidation.

Selectively coupled small Pd nanoparticles on sp2-hybridized domain of graphene-based aerogel with enhanced catalytic activity and stability

Qiang Zhao et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the precise coupling of Pd nanoparticles with graphene aerogel to enhance catalytic activity and stability. By selectively anchoring Pd nanoparticles to sp(2)-hybridized domains, the removal of oxidative debris leads to smaller Pd nanoparticle size and increased catalytic performance. The integrated merits of Pd/BGA as a heterogeneous catalyst are attributed to the selective anchoring of Pd nanoparticles on the graphene-based aerogel and the strong coupling interaction with the support.
