Intraspecies variation of Metarhizium brunneum against the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae, provides insight into the complexity of disease progression

Summary: This study found minor interspecies diversity but significant intraspecies diversity in Metarhizium spp., particularly between isolates Mb7 and MbK of Metarhizium brunneum. Infected adult aphids showed high mortality rates and reduced fecundity, while nymphs only demonstrated mortality following MbK infection along with reduced molting rates. The study also showed that altered conidial adhesion to the nymph cuticle may play a major role in affecting virulence in these fungi.

Not Only a Formulation: The Effects of Pickering Emulsion on the Entomopathogenic Action of Metarhizium brunneum

Summary: By formulating Metarhizium brunneum conidia in an oil-in-water Pickering emulsion, better dispersion and adhesion to host cuticle were achieved, resulting in significantly higher mortality under high humidity compared to other treatments. The emulsion also showed a reduction in larval growth and feeding, as well as faster fungal growth in-host, suggesting an improved physical interaction and weakening effect on the host, increasing the likelihood of acute infection.
