Reproductive outcomes after laparoscopic surgery in infertile women affected by ovarian endometriomas, with or without in vitro fertilisation: results from the SAFE (surgery and ART for endometriomas) trial

Helena Ban Frangez et al.

Summary: The study found that women who underwent previous laparoscopic cystectomy for endometrioma required higher doses of gonadotrophins for ovarian stimulation and had a lower number of retrieved oocytes compared with other types of infertility. However, pregnancy and delivery rates were comparable to other causes of infertility. These findings can help in providing adequate counselling for infertile women with ovarian endometriomas and making informed decisions shared with the patient.

Endometrioma surgery-a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effect on antral follicle count and anti-Mullerian hormone

Johnny S. Younis et al.

Summary: Endometriotic cystectomies have a significant impact on serum anti-Mullerian hormone levels but not on antral follicle counts. The detrimental effects on anti-Mullerian hormone levels can be detected at early, intermediate, and late postoperative time points. Anti-Mullerian hormone levels may provide a more accurate assessment of the risk of iatrogenic depletion of the ovarian reserve in women with endometrioma.

The impact of endometrioma on in vitro fertilisation/intra-cytoplasmic injection IVF/ICSI reproductive outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Sallwa M. Alshehre et al.

Summary: Endometrioma in women undergoing IVF or ICSI leads to a decreased number of oocytes and MII oocytes retrieved, but no significant differences were found in other reproductive outcomes, indicating that IVF/ICSI is a beneficial ART approach for women with endometrioma.

Ovarian Endometrioma Negatively Impacts Oocyte Quality and Quantity But Not Pregnancy Outcomes in Women Undergoing IVF/ICSI Treatment: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Yaoqiu Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that ovarian endometrioma negatively affects oocyte quality and quantity in women undergoing IVF/ICSI treatment, but does not impact overall pregnancy outcomes. Endometrioma reduces the cumulative live birth rate by decreasing the number of embryos. Surgical excision of endometrioma can partly improve oocyte maturation and fertilization rates but does not affect pregnancy outcomes.
