Predictive Factors of Surgical Site Infection in Prosthetic Joint Surgery: A Prospective Study on 760 Arthroplasties

Martina Maritati et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify potential risk factors for surgical site infections (SSIs) in patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty (TJA). The results showed that higher total leukocyte and neutrophil values at discharge were associated with an increased risk of developing SSIs. Furthermore, deep SSIs were diagnosed significantly earlier than superficial SSIs, with a median advance of 9 days.

Paediatric and adult patients from New Caledonia Island admitted to the ICU for community-acquired Panton-Valentine leucocidin-producing Staphylococcus aureus infections

O. Imauven et al.

Summary: This study examined the clinical characteristics and outcomes of community-acquired Panton-Valentine leukocidin-producing Staphylococcus aureus infections in an intensive care unit in New Caledonia. The study found that patients in this region had different clinical presentations compared to observations in Western Europe, with higher rates of multifocal infections and methicillin-resistant strains.

Irrelevance of Panton-Valentine leukocidin in hidradenitis suppurativa: results from a pilot, observational study

Monica Corazza et al.

Summary: The study findings suggest that Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) produced by Staphylococcus aureus does not play a pathogenetic role in Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), indicating that PVL may not be a potential target for future HS treatments.

Crosstalk Between Staphylococcus aureus and Innate Immunity: Focus on Immunometabolism

Christopher M. Horn et al.

Summary: Staphylococcus aureus is a major cause of bacterial infections worldwide due to its virulence factors, antibiotic resistance, and ability to form biofilm. The pathogen manipulates the host immune response through its metabolic flexibility, while the metabolic program of leukocytes determines their response to infection. Understanding the metabolic interaction between S. aureus and leukocytes may lead to new therapeutic strategies against these infections.
