Comparison of external, internal flat-to-flat, and conical implant abutment connections for implant-supported prostheses: A systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

Octavi Camps-Font et al.

Summary: This network meta-analysis evaluated the influence of implant abutment connection on the outcome of implant-supported prostheses. The study found that conical connections had lower marginal bone loss and fewer prosthetic complications compared to external hexagonal connections after 1 year of loading. However, the implant abutment connection design had no influence on the implant survival and biologic complication rates.

Biological mechanisms underlying complications related to implant site preparation

Georgios A. Kotsakis et al.

Summary: Implant site preparation is a critical stage of implant surgery, which can lead to various complications. This review discusses the latest scientific information on risk factors related to implant site preparation and explores factors that may influence implant success, such as drilling process and bone density, insertion torque and osseous healing, and implant-related variables.

Contemporary Concepts in Osseointegration of Dental Implants: A Review

Chandrashekhar Pandey et al.

Summary: In a society that values aesthetics, prosthetic rehabilitation using tissue-integrated dental implants has become popular. The process of osseointegration, which involves the integration of implants with bone tissues, is essential for implant stability. Factors that affect osseointegration include implant design, bone quality, and host conditions. Monitoring the status of osseointegration is crucial to address any issues. This review discusses the mechanisms, factors, and methods to assess osseointegration and highlights the recent advances and future perspectives in dental implantology.

Dental Implant and Natural Tooth Micro-Movements during Mastication-In Vivo Study with 3D VIC Method

Daniel Tamas Szava et al.

Summary: Using the video image correlation method, the researchers studied the micro-movement pattern of dental implants compared to natural teeth. It was found that the underlying bone tissue is the major factor influencing the type and value of implant micro-movement. The elasticity of the periodontal ligament system plays an important role in the distribution of loading forces in dental implants.

Bacterial Microleakage at the Implant-Abutment Interface: An In Vitro Study

Simonetta D'Ercole et al.

Summary: The objective of this study is to assess the bacterial leakage of three different implant connections in vitro. The results show that the Cone Morse connection has lower bacterial contamination compared to other types of connections. In addition, Pseudomonas aeruginosa has a higher ability to contaminate all connections than Streptococcus oralis.

Tilted Implants and Sinus Floor Elevation Techniques Compared in Posterior Edentulous Maxilla: A Retrospective Clinical Study over Four Years of Follow-Up

Gherlone Enrico Felice et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the survival rate, bone loss, and complications of implants placed through sinus elevation and tilted implants in basal bone. The results showed that tilted implants had a higher survival rate and lower bone loss. However, no significant differences were found between the groups.

Placement and Loading Protocols for Single Implants in Different Locations: A Systematic Review

Wenjie Zhou et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of implant placement and loading protocols on the survival of single implant tooth replacements in different locations. Different validated protocols were identified for the anterior and posterior regions of the maxilla and mandible, suggesting the importance of considering location when selecting treatment protocols for single implants.

Summary: The study evaluated maxillary full-arch implant-supported fixed rehabilitations and found that they are susceptible to biologic complications such as soft tissue recession, tissue hyperplasia, and bone loss. Patient satisfaction rates varied with some patients having complaints about cleaning difficulty. Regular maintenance appointments were associated with reduced complications.
