Quantifying cell-generated forces: Poisson's ratio matters

Yousef Javanmardi et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of Poisson's ratio on TFM experiments and highlights its importance in accurate force reconstruction. The authors demonstrate the sensitivity of TFM to Poisson's ratio by employing computer simulations and experimental data analysis, providing a framework for determining error levels resulting from misestimation of Poisson's ratio.

Transverse isotropic modelling of left-ventricle passive filling: Mechanical characterization for epicardial biomaterial manufacturing

Jean-Philippe Jehl et al.

Summary: Biomedical materials applied to the epicardium of the heart have been intensively studied for their mechanical influence, with nanoindentation experiments revealing variations in elasticity according to the local orientation of the myocardial tissue. Finite Element Analysis simulation of the diastolic phase showed that a model based on transverse isotropy and local tissue orientation accurately simulated the passive filling of the left ventricle. The model enhances understanding of the mechanical properties of the LV wall and guides the design and manufacture of better adapted biomedical materials for the local epicardial tissue.
