Could low α-N-acetylgalactosaminidase plasma concentration cause schizophrenia?

Seda Yilmaz et al.

Summary: Using a neurodevelopmental approach, this study investigated the etiology of schizophrenia and found an enzyme deficiency at the cellular level. The results showed that schizophrenic patients had lower levels of α-N-acetylgalactosaminidase (α-NAGAL) compared to the control group, and there was a correlation between α-NAGAL levels and disease severity and age of onset. These findings support the neurodevelopmental hypothesis and suggest that α-NAGAL may play an important role in the etiology of schizophrenia.

Automated accurate detection of depression using twin Pascal's triangles lattice pattern with EEG Signals

Gulay Tasci et al.

Summary: This study presents a computationally lightweight handcrafted classification model for accurate detection of major depressive disorder (MDD) using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. The model extracts local textural features and statistical features from the raw EEG signal and applies feature selection and classification algorithms to optimize the model. The generated model achieves high accuracies and outperforms other models developed using the same dataset.

Improving brain tumor classification performance with an effective approach based on new deep learning model named 3ACL from 3D MRI data

Fatih Demir et al.

Summary: A new deep learning model is proposed for brain tumor classification using 3D MRI data. By designing attention, convolutional, and LSTM structures in the same learning architecture, the representation power of the features is increased. The model directly uses 3D MR images and achieves accuracies of 98.90% and 99.29% on the BRATS 2015 and 2018 datasets, respectively.

Changes in nitric oxide, zinc and metallothionein levels in limbic regions at pre-pubertal and post-pubertal ages presented in an animal model of schizophrenia

Israel Camacho-Abrego et al.

Summary: Recent data suggests that rats with neonatal ventral hippocampal lesion exhibit changes related to inflammatory processes and oxidative stress at the prefrontal cortex level during post-pubertal age, with an increase in nitric oxide levels and locomotor activity observed. Additionally, alterations in zinc and metallothionein levels were found in various brain regions at pre-pubertal age, while changes in nitric oxide, zinc, and metallothionein levels were observed in different brain regions at post-pubertal age.
