Charge Separation Enhancement Enables Record Photocurrent Density in Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 Photocathodes for Efficient Solar Hydrogen Production

Guangxing Liang et al.

Summary: This study addresses the main issues of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)(4) (CZTSSe) in solar energy conversion devices, including severe charge carrier recombination and sluggish charge separation efficiency, by fabricating a planar-type Mo/CZTSSe/CdS/TiO2/Pt photocathode. The high-quality CZTSSe film and favorable energy band alignment of CZTSSe/CdS heterojunction significantly enhance the device performance, achieving a remarkable photocurrent density and solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency.

Heterojunction interface engineering enabling high onset potential in Sb2Se3/CdS photocathodes for efficient solar hydrogen production

Guangxing Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, self-assembled growth of Sb2Se3 with large crystal grains, benign orientation, and accurate composition was achieved, and Mo/Sb2Se3/CdS/Pt photocathodes were constructed. The post-annealing of Sb2Se3/CdS heterojunction demonstrated a positive effect on device performance. This interface engineering can facilitate the fabrication of high V-on Sb2Se3 photocathode, expanding its applications in solar hydrogen production.

Over 10% Efficient Cu2CdSnS4 Solar Cells Fabricated from Optimized Sulfurization

Ping Fan et al.

Summary: Currently, Kesterite-based thin-film solar cells suffer from band-tailed states, leading to low open-circuit voltage and hindering device performance improvement. In this study, stannite-based Cu2CdSnS4 thin films were successfully obtained with good quality and single-phase composition by optimizing sulfurization, Cu/Cd+Sn ratios, and temperatures. Substituting Cd for Zn effectively reduced Cu-Cd-related defects and defect clusters, resulting in reduced band-tailed states compared to kesterite-based devices. The Cu2CdSnS4 thin-film solar cell prepared under optimized conditions exhibited high efficiency and outperformed other stannite-based solar cells reported to date.

Research on the Influence of the Interfacial Properties Between a Cu3BiS3 Film and an InxCd1-xS Buffer Layer for Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

Xiaomin Wu et al.

Summary: The Cu3BiS3 thin film-based photoelectrode shows promising potential for photoelectrochemical hydrogen evolution. However, the conduction band offset between Cu3BiS3 and CdS buffer layer increases interfacial recombination ratio and decreases photocurrent. The InxCd1-xS buffer layer is found to lower the conduction band offset and its In incorporation ratio affects the offset value.
