Expectant Management or Early Ibuprofen for Patent Ductus Arteriosus

Tim Hundscheid et al.

Summary: This trial showed that in the treatment of PDA in extremely preterm infants, expectant management was noninferior to early ibuprofen treatment in terms of necrotizing enterocolitis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, or death at 36 weeks' postmenstrual age.

Effect of arachidonic and docosahexaenoic acid supplementation on respiratory outcomes and neonatal morbidities in preterm infants

Kristina Wendel et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of supplementation with arachidonic acid (ARA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on respiratory outcomes and neonatal morbidities in preterm infants. The results showed that supplementation with ARA and DHA significantly reduced the duration of respiratory support and oxygen demand compared to the control group, without clinically important differences in the incidence of morbidities.

Hydrocortisone to Improve Survival without Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

K. L. Watterberg et al.

Summary: This trial found that hydrocortisone treatment starting on postnatal day 14 to 28 did not significantly improve the survival without moderate or severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia compared to placebo. The survival without moderate or severe neurodevelopmental impairment also did not differ significantly between the two groups.

Maternal High-Dose DHA Supplementation and Neurodevelopment at 18-22 Months of Preterm Children

Mireille Guillot et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether maternal supplementation with high-dose docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) improved neurodevelopmental outcomes in breastfed, very preterm neonates at 18 to 22 months' corrected age. The study found that overall, maternal DHA supplementation did not improve neurodevelopmental outcomes at 18 to 22 months' corrected age in breastfed, preterm neonates. However, subgroup analyses suggested a potential benefit for language in preterm neonates born before 27 weeks' gestational age.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the effects of high doses of enteral DHA supplementation on bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in very preterm infants. The study will conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis, searching for relevant randomized controlled trials and analyzing the data. The findings will provide evidence for clinicians and families to make informed decisions.

Hydrocortisone to Improve Survival without Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

K. L. Watterberg et al.

Summary: In this trial involving preterm infants, hydrocortisone treatment starting on postnatal day 14 to 28 did not result in substantially higher survival without moderate or severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia than placebo. Survival without moderate or severe neurodevelopmental impairment did not differ substantially between the two groups.

Effect of Minimally Invasive Surfactant Therapy vs Sham Treatment on Death or Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia in Preterm Infants With Respiratory Distress Syndrome The OPTIMIST-A Randomized Clinical Trial

Peter A. Dargaville et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the effect of selective application of minimally invasive surfactant therapy on preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome. The results showed that while there was no significant difference between the MIST group and the control group in terms of death or bronchopulmonary dysplasia at 36 weeks' postmenstrual age, the incidence of BPD in survivors was lower in the MIST group.
