An Introduction to PT-Symmetric Quantum Mechanics-Time-Dependent Systems

A. Fring

Summary: This article provides a pedagogical introduction to PT-symmetric non-Hermitian quantum systems, explaining how these systems possess real eigenvalue spectra in parts of their parameter spaces and how to establish a consistent quantum mechanical framework for them. It also discusses the extension of this framework to explicitly time-dependent Hamiltonian systems and recent progress made in this context. The article concludes with applications to PT-symmetrically coupled oscillators and the implications of explicitly time-dependent systems on the von Neumann entropy, demonstrating a prolongation of the entropy's decay.

The Vaidya metric: Expected and unexpected traits of evaporating black holes

Julius Piesnack et al.

Summary: The article introduces the ingoing Vaidya metric as a model for a non-rotating uncharged black hole emitting Hawking radiation. It serves as an exploration of non-stationary gravitational fields and presents several interesting predictions.

IR/UV mixing from local similarity maps of scalar non-Hermitian field theories

Maxim N. Chernodub et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to evaluate the group of similarity transformations that act on a space of non-Hermitian scalar theories. The introduction of a similarity gauge field leads to new effects, including instability in high-energy scalar particles, which are determined by the strength of the emergent similarity gauge field.

Energy dependence of the chiral magnetic effect in expanding holographic plasma

Casey Cartwright et al.

Summary: In this study, we used holographic far-from-equilibrium calculation to investigate the chiral magnetic effect (CME) in an expanding quark-gluon plasma. We found that the plasma expansion leads to a dilution of the CME current. Our results suggest that an increasing initial energy is likely to enhance the time-integrated CME current.

Spontaneous non-Hermiticity in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

M. N. Chernodub et al.

Summary: The study reveals the emergence of a non-Hermitian PT-symmetric ground state in the standard Hermitian Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, characterized by a noncompact non-Hermitian symmetry group that can be spontaneously broken under different coupling regimes. The ground state exhibits inhomogeneity at strong coupling while maintaining spatial uniformity at weak coupling, lying between the PT-symmetric and PT-broken phases. Outside the chiral limit, the minimal NJL model does not have a stable non-Hermitian ground state.

Is the chiral magnetic effect fast enough?

Jewel K. Ghosh et al.

Summary: The article studies the real-time evolution of the chiral magnetic effect in strongly coupled holographic gauge theories, observing different trends in the change rates of pressure and chiral magnetic current under varying magnetic fields. The findings provide guidance for the realization of the chiral magnetic effect in heavy ion collisions.
