Extracellular vesicles derived from neural EGFL-Like 1-modified mesenchymal stem cells improve acellular bone regeneration via the miR-25-5p-SMAD2 signaling axis

Yanhua Lan et al.

Summary: This study reveals that extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from Nell1-modified bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) have a stronger ability to promote BMSC osteogenesis due to the downregulation of miR-25-5p. Additionally, the 3D-Nell1/EV hydrogel system is shown to be beneficial for bone regeneration in vivo, possibly because of the slow and continuous release of EVs at a high concentration in the bone defect area.
