Coupling Spin Defects in a Layered Material to Nanoscale Plasmonic Cavities

Noah Mendelson et al.

Summary: A scalable approach has been demonstrated to greatly enhance the emission of V-B(-) defects by coupling to a plasmonic gap cavity. This enhancement in photoluminescence and optically detected magnetic resonance contrast will be crucial for advances in quantum sensing using 2D materials and in the realization of nanophotonic devices with spin defects in hexagonal boron nitride.

Defect-Type-Dependent Carrier Lifetimes in Monolayer WS2 Films

Yuanshuang Liu et al.

Summary: The presence of defects in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) reduces the band-edge carrier lifetimes, thereby affecting the efficiency of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Understanding the mechanism behind the impact of different defect types on carrier lifetimes can facilitate the improvement of TMDs and enhance the performance of LEDs.

Identifying Defect-Induced Trion in Monolayer WS2 via Carrier Screening Engineering

Riya Sebait et al.

Summary: This study reports defect-induced A-trions and B-trions in monolayer tungsten disulfide (WS2) and compares their binding energies with trions and neutral excitons. The defect-induced trions are strongly coupled with inherent hole traps and show increased prominence in rhenium-doped WS2. Furthermore, the investigation allows for localization of defect-induced trion binding energies via spatial mapping in the WS2 monoflake regions, distinct from the flake edges.

Sub-5 nm Lithography with Single GeV Heavy Ions Using Inorganic Resist

Qing Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a process for single-digit nanometer lithography using single heavy ions, achieving ultrahigh-aspect-ratio nanofilaments with sub-5 nm feature size. Control experiments and simulation analysis indicate that both the HSQ resist and heavy ions contribute to the high-resolution capabilities for sub-5 nm fabrication. The development of heavy-ion technology is expected to further enhance patterning resolution at the single-digit nanometer scale.

Focused ion beam milling based formation of nanochannels in silicon-glass microfluidic chips for the study of ion transport

Denis Lebedev et al.

Summary: The study focuses on developing a technique for fabricating arrays of nanochannels in silicon-glass chips using focused ion beam milling. It was found that the etching time of focused ion beam has an impact on both width and depth of the created nanochannels. Anodic bonding of a silicon wafer with a glass plate was suggested to encapsulate devices for longer lifetime, and experimental and theoretical methods were used to study ionic conductivity of the produced nanochannels.
