Manipulating the surface states of BiVO4 through electrochemical reduction for enhanced PEC water oxidation

Peixin Yang et al.

Summary: In this work, a novel electrochemical reduction strategy combined with co-catalyst modification is proposed to manipulate the surface states of BiVO4. The electrochemical reduction treatment forms an ultrathin amorphous structure on the surface of BiVO4, reducing the surface energy and passivating the recombined surface states. The FeOOH co-catalyst layer enhances the intermediate surface states of BiVO4, stabilizes the surface structure, and improves its photoelectrochemical performance.
