Manipulating Interfacial Stability Via Absorption-Competition Mechanism for Long-Lifespan Zn Anode

Meijia Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, aromatic aldehyde additives were used to modulate the interface reactions between Zn anode and electrolyte in Zn-based energy storage devices. By competing with redox reactions, these additives prevented the decomposition of active H2O and uncontrollable growth of Zn dendrites, resulting in improved stability of the devices.

Enriching Oxygen Vacancy Defects via Ag-O-Mn Bonds for Enhanced Diffusion Kinetics of δ-MnO2 in Zinc-Ion Batteries

Xiaohua Pu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the key issues in the cathode materials of ZIBs and successfully addresses the diffusion dynamics and dissolution problems by doping Ag into MnO2, thereby improving the performance of the battery. The results reveal that the superior performance of MnO2-2 is attributed to the enhanced diffusion kinetics of the cathode resulting from the enriched oxygen vacancy defects and the formation of Ag-O-Mn bonds. In addition, the kinetic mechanism of the Zn/MnO2-2 cell can be described as a reversible process of the dissolution/precipitation of the ZHS phase and consequent insertion/extraction of Zn2+ and H3O+. This research provides further insights into the design of manganese-based aqueous ZIB cathode materials and facilitates the development and application of large-scale energy storage systems in the future.

A rechargeable zinc-air battery based on zinc peroxide chemistry

Wei Sun et al.

Summary: The study presents a zinc-O-2/zinc peroxide chemistry that operates through a 2e(-)/O-2 process in nonalkaline aqueous electrolytes, allowing highly reversible redox reactions in zinc-air batteries. This innovative ZnO2 chemistry, enabled by water-poor and zinc ion (Zn2+)-rich inner Helmholtz layer, shows superior reversibility and stability compared to alkaline zinc-air batteries.

Design of a Solid Electrolyte Interphase for Aqueous Zn Batteries

Dan Li et al.

Summary: A low-concentration aqueous Zn(OTF)(2)-Zn(NO3)(2) electrolyte was designed to form a robust inorganic ZnF2-Zn-5(CO3)(2)(OH)(6)-organic bilayer SEI, allowing high Coulombic efficiency and energy density. The study achieved a high CE of 99.8% for 200 h in Ti parallel to Zn cells, and a high energy density of 168 Wh kg(-1) with 96.5% retention for 700 cycles in Zn parallel to MnO2 cells with a low Zn/MnO2 capacity ratio of 2:1.

Role of biochar surface characteristics in the adsorption of aromatic compounds: Pore structure and functional groups

Xue-Fei Tan et al.

Summary: Biochar is widely used as an efficient adsorbent for aromatics-based contaminants due to its easy preparation and high sustainability. The surface properties of biochar vary greatly, with specific surface area and pore volume/size affecting the adsorption of aromatics. The influence of surface functional groups (SFGs) on aromatics adsorption remains unclear, but potential relationships between SFGs and adsorbates have been explored in this study.
