Memory and dynamic response of a thermoelastic functionally graded nanobeams due to a periodic heat flux

Ahmed E. Abouelregal et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new mathematical model for functionally graded thermoelastic nanobeams (FGNB) with a free choice of kernel function and time delay. By utilizing Hamilton's principle, Euler-Bernoulli's assumptions, Eringen's theory, and three-phase-lag memory dependent heat conduction, the basic equations governing the proposed model have been derived. The FGNB shows variations in moment distribution, temperature, displacement, and deflection due to a heat flux dependent on time. The model is solved analytically using Laplace integral transform, and the impacts of different kernel functions, time delays, nonlocal parameter, and periodic pulse are illustrated graphically and compared with current thermoelastic models.

Reliability based topology optimization of thermoelastic structures using bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization method

Muayad Habashneh et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a novel computational technique for thermoelastic structural topology optimization based on reliability-based design. The volume fraction parameter is treated as a random variable and a Monte Carlo simulation approach is used to calculate the reliability index. A new bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization scheme is developed, taking into account the impact of changing constraints in deterministic and probabilistic problems. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated using benchmark problems and a 2D L-shaped beam problem.

Influence of Thermal Sensitivity of Functionally Graded Materials on Temperature during Braking

Aleksander Yevtushenko et al.

Summary: The study proposes a model to determine the temperature of functionally graded friction elements during frictional heating process, taking into account the thermal sensitivity of materials. The model is based on the exact solution of the one-dimensional thermal problem of friction during braking with constant deceleration, and incorporates formulas approximating the temperature dependencies of functionally graded materials to improve accuracy. Comparative analysis revealed that assuming thermal stability of functionally graded materials during braking can significantly overestimate the temperature of the friction pair elements.

Tareq Saeed

Summary: In this work, the effect of fractional time derivative on a piezo-thermo-elastic medium is studied using the hybrid Laplace transform and finite element methods. The generalized fractional piezoelectric-thermoelastic basic equations are formulated and solved numerically to investigate the influence of fractional time derivative and thermal relaxation time on the medium.

Thermal plane waves in unbounded non-local medium exposed to a moving heat source with a non-singular kernel and higher order time derivatives

Ahmed E. Abouelregal et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the thermoelastic characteristics of a nonlocal unbounded viscoelastic medium with an instantaneous heat source using a modified dual-phase-lag model with higher-order time derivatives. Fractional derivative and Eringen's non-local theory are applied, and a fractional derivative operator with non-single kernels is proposed. Results show the effects of heat source velocity, nonlocal parameter, viscoelastic coefficients, phase lags, fractional and higher-order parameters on the behavior of physical fields.

Magneto-thermoelastic interaction in a functionally graded medium under gravitational field

Pallabi Purkait et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the thermoelastic interactions of displacements, stress, and temperature in a functionally graded unbounded medium under the influence of gravitational field and induced magnetic field while rotating with uniform angular velocity. The governing equations are formulated using generalized thermoelasticity with energy dissipation, and the problem is solved analytically in the transformed domain using Laplace and Fourier transforms. The results demonstrate excellent predictive capability considering nonhomogeneity, rotation, magnetic field influence, and gravitational field influence.

Nonlocal thermoelastic analysis of a functionally graded material microbeam

Wei Peng et al.

Summary: Functionally graded materials (FGMs) exhibit excellent thermal shock resistance, and the size-dependent effect becomes important at micro-scale, requiring the use of nonlocal generalized thermoelastic theory. The study formulates governing equations for a simply supported FGM microbeam heated by ramp-type heating using Laplace transform techniques, and presents numerical results discussing the effects of ramp-heating time parameter, nonlocal parameter, and power-law index.

Understanding the thermal problem of variable gradient functionally graded plate based on hybrid numerical method under linear heat source

Jianhui Tian et al.

Summary: The thermal problem of functionally graded materials (FGM) under linear heat source is studied using a hybrid numerical method. The heat conduction equation is established based on the weighted residual method and the temperature distribution is analyzed. Results show that the closer to the heat source, the greater the influence, and higher gradient parameters lead to higher temperature at location points, with a positive correlation between gradient parameters and temperature distribution at observation points.
