Semiautomated Generation of Logic Rules for Tabular Information in Building Codes to Support Automated Code Compliance Checking

Xiaorui Xue et al.

Summary: To automate building code compliance checking, regulatory requirements need to be extracted and transformed from building codes. Existing efforts mainly focus on text-based requirements, while addressing requirements in other parts of building codes, such as tables or charts, remains a challenge. To bridge this gap, the authors propose a semi-automated method that extracts requirements from tables and converts them into logic rules. The method includes tabular information extraction and rule generation steps, allowing for accurate processing of applicable building code requirements.

Towards Automated Structural Stability Design of Buildings-A BIM-Based Solution

Satinder Kaur Khattra et al.

Summary: Building Information Modelling (BIM) is revolutionizing the AEC industry by automating architectural and structural design processes. This research introduces the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) specification and a deep multi-perception-based generalized adaptive framework (DMPBGAF) to improve design correctness and efficiency. By using automated code compliance checks and a rule engine, the proposed method enhances design accuracy and reliability.

Loose coupling of GIS and BIM data models for automated compliance checking against zoning codes

Yelin Demir Altintas et al.

Summary: This paper describes the development of a zoning domain model for automated compliance checking of building projects, where geometric and semantic data are stored, queried, and exported as a GML file through a proof-of-concept GIS application. The use of this data model for automated code checking demonstrates how GIS data can seamlessly complement BIM data without the need for expanding BIM schemas.

A Semantic Approach for Automated Rule Compliance Checking in Construction Industry

Dongming Guo et al.

Summary: Automated Compliance Checking (ACC) is crucial in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry, however, it still involves manual operations and high costs. A semantic approach is proposed to automate the whole ACC process, extracting rule terms and logic relationships from text regulatory documents using NLP, mapping them to BIM data keywords for generating SPARQL queries, providing flexible and effective rule checking for BIM data.

Building Information Modeling Based Automated Building Regulation Compliance Checking Asp.net Web Software

Murat Aydin

Summary: Building regulations are legal documents prepared under the control of local authorities for use in the architecture, engineering, and construction sectors to ensure performance and quality throughout the construction process. The traditional manual inspection process is time-consuming and error-prone. The aim of the study is to create automated building regulation compliance checking software for municipality users in Turkey.
